AVE 206 - Mechanics of Motion


Prerequisite, major in animation & visual effects. Using traditional methods, students will be introduced to the fundamental mechanics of motion, including paths of action, forces, timing, patterns, anticipation, action and counteraction, balance, weight, squash and stretch, primary and secondary action, and overlap. Students will use traditional media including animation drawing boards and “pencil test” software to create frame-by-frame animated motion to learn how to visualize and then represent the action of forms and shapes in motion, and create the illusion of such actions as acceleration, deceleration, collision, anticipation, balance, momentum, and intent. Letter grade. Fee: $75 (Offered fall semester.) 3 credits
