PHYS 321 - Mechanics II

Prerequisites, PHYS 320, MATH 215. Students are introduced to the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations of mechanics and their applications. Students learn general concepts, methods, analytic tools and advanced problem-solving skills. Topics include Euler-Lagrange equations, constraints, Hamilton-Jacobi theory, phase space methods, chaotic dynamics, and special relativity. Letter grade with Pass/No Pass option. (Offered spring semester, alternate years.) 3 credits
