COM 317 - Media and Politics

Prerequisites, School of Communication major, COM 100 , or SCC 100  with a minimum grade of B- and COM 295  with a minimum grade of C, or as a corequisite. An examination of the role of the mass media in the American political process. Topics include various models and theories of political communication, the construction of news, agenda setting, mass media effects, campaign communications, and the impact of press coverage of political actors and institutions. Some sections may be taught with POSC 317 . (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
