FTV 363 - Inside the Music Business


Presents a comprehensive introduction to the contemporary music business through the use of insider experts, in class discussion, and readings. Examines various aspects including touring, concert and festival promotion and production, artist management, exploitation of sound recordings, music publishing, copyright, and legal overview. The objective of this course is to give students an inside view of the music business from the perspective of an artist manager. Student’s responsibility includes guiding the strategy and execution of an artist’s music revenue streams including recording, touring, licensing, merchandising while developing marketing and distribution through traditional as well as more current digital platforms. Top music industry guests will speak on areas of their expertise. Letter grade. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
