ENGR 304 - Design of Biomedical Diagnostics and Devices

Prerequisite, BIOL 208 or CHEM 150 or PHYS 102 or PHYS 108 or BCHM 208. Students are introduced to the underlying physical, chemical, and biological principles that govern the function of biomedical detection technologies (e.g., pathogen rapid tests, bioanalytical methods, biosensors). The design of diagnostic devices will then be explored in the context of those principles, as well as the design requirements associated with precision, accuracy, ease of use, and clinical adoption, with the latter two points being related to human-centered design and human factors analysis. Letter grade with Pass/No Pass option. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
