CPSC 543 - Text Mining and Natural Language Processing


From deciphering the sentiment in product reviews to extracting important data in legal documents, the applications of text mining (TM) and natural language processing (NLP) are endless across all industries. This course will be multi-disciplinary in nature and will dive into the most popular data-driven methods used in industry and academia. In order to successfully analyze human language, we will walk students through the theory and background needed from different areas including linguistics, mathematics, electrical engineering, and psychology. To be successful in this course students should be comfortable with programming, algorithm analysis, linear algebra, and foundations of machine learning. Letter grade. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
