EDUC 532 - Content Area Literacy


Prerequisite, admission to the teacher credential and/or Master of Arts in teaching program. This course studies literacy processes and their relationship to the secondary school curriculum and adolescent lives. Areas of focus will include the integration of reading and writing in the content areas, literacy assessment, vocabulary strategies, comprehension strategies, the use of fiction and non-fiction across the curriculum, literacy resources, including technological resources, and variations in literacy instruction for students from diverse linguistic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Tutoring in a content area using literacy strategies will serve as 25 hours of integrated fieldwork for this course. This course may run concurrent with EDUC 500 . Letter grade. Fee: $75.
