MUS 339 - Principles of Arranging


Prerequisite, MUS 233 . A study of the various aspects of instrumentation and arranging for various ensembles, found in K-12 system and beyond, using examples drawn from existing repertoire for band, choir, orchestra and other ensembles. The primary emphasis will be placed on learning about instrumentation, different types of voices and arranging for various ensembles in a series of practical exercises, which will focus on learning the principles of vocal writing, instrumental transposition, notation of score and parts, voicing the chords and combining parts in the score to create a variety of textures. Letter grade. (Offered spring semester.) 2 credits
