MATH 208 - Foundations of Geometry

Prerequisite, MATH 99 , or equivalent. Students in this course will examine the fundamentals of geometry through rigorous proofs. Students will come away with an understanding of Euclidian and non-Euclidian geometries, systems of axioms, classical theorems, and geometric transformations. The main objective of this course is to provide students with a solid understanding of the history, development, and philosophical significance of geometry in the context of its mathematical foundations. This course prepares students for further proof-intensive mathematics courses. It is also recommended for future mathematics teachers. (Offered as needed.) 3 credits
